Quotes tagged “Pay It Forward”
I was fighting a few years of alcohol abuse trying to find my life when my sweet friend Sara gifted me my key saying Courage. She said she chose courage because I was courageously becoming who I was meant to be. I wore my key from the day I received it, never taking it off until the day I knew I should pass it on.
A dear friend of mine found out her dad is battling liver severe cancer. I knew I should pass it on to her but struggled to. I loved my key and it meant so incredibly much to me. I know it means just as much to her now. I have now ordered another one for my dear friend Sara who started this beautiful cycle that says Sunshine. I chose Sunshine because that is what she has been to me in some dark and scary days. Now her light is shinning past me on on to others.”
I work with the most amazing people and a very special woman I work with is the most generous, selfless and giving person I know gave me the key of LOVE. I am getting married next week and she has been wearing this key all week. I couldn't stop asking where she got it and what it meant and when she told me about The Giving Keys, I fell in love (literally). She travels from NY 3 weeks out of the month and right before she headed to the airport she gave me her LOVE key. It made me cry simply because she just always gives. Whether it be her time or the most thoughtful gifts. I will cherish this and know that I will pay it forward to someone special to keep this tradition alive.”
My name is Sammie and this is my story.
I'm 15 and originally got my key to help look forward to something I had a lot of worries and a lot of anxiety and wanted to get rid of them that's why I chose the phrase "let go". Recently my cousin died. She struggled with alcohol abuse, drug abuse, and was unstable all together. She was 23 when she passed. My family and I got back from her funeral a few weeks ago. I decided to give her my key, so I placed it in her casket with her. Hopefully she will be able to let go of her demons and be at peace.”
My best friend of over 11 years has been dealt a hand that most would use as an excuse to curl up in bed and stay there. She grew up poor and neglected as 1 of 5 children. One of her brothers was diagnosed and taken by cancer when she was young. She started supporting herself at 15 and has done so since.
She married young and has since had 4 pregnancies producing 3 beautiful babies that amaze me every day. She has had health issues herself since she was young. After her 4th pregnancy she had a hysterectomy, her gulbladder removed and many organ failure scares that she barely caught in time. This amazing woman is going through menopause and is only 30. Her husband is military so he is gone all the time. She is basically a single parent with 3 children under the age of 10. One sassy girl (9 going on 19), one brilliant 8 year old son with an unfortunate severe case of dyslexia and one 5 year old boy that is rambunxious and crazy (in a cute way for now).
Well, on top of her previous health issues, being a single parent for most of her 9 years of parenthood and dealing with the uncertainty of living situations that military life brings... She was recently told that she has 3 huge masses that need to be biopsied. I broke down for the first time in front of her. I try to be strong when she tells me of new findings with her children, husbands career or herself. This time I couldn't do it. I lost all selfcontrol and just burst into tears. I may be loosing my best friend. My person. This time, not because she moved away and airfare is expensive, but because this disease may take her from me... from her husband... from her babies...
I gave her the key of strength even though she is the strongest woman I know. I prayed over that key to keep her healthy, happy and for us to be given answers. She will fight this. And I will be right there with her. This bond we have can't be broken. Not by time, not by distance and not by disease. If you see this, YOU ARE MY PERSON! I LOVE YOU!”
I haven't been able to share my giving keys story on here until now, but since I have a little but if free time I thought I'd share it. About a year ago I received a key that said the word "Inspire" on it from a good friend named Britt. I used that word to help rebuild my life and to start inspiring people on my own until a couple weeks ago when I felt so moved that there was someone else in my life that needed it more than me.
That person was my aunt.
Her husband was diagnosed with throat cancer a couple years ago and is now dealing with a lot of the side effects from the treatment that he received while he was sick. He is unable to eat most things and my aunt has always been strong about getting him the help that he needs. I chose to give this key and this word to her to serve as a reminder that she's not alone and that even when life gets tough, it's still important to inspire and be an inspiration for those that we can whenever we can!
I told her that the Giving Keys is so much more than a necklace that you wear on your neck, they're reminders, life-changers, and life savers. While I wore inspire, it was a great reminder that not matter how tough my day was, being an inspiration for someone else is so important!”
